The International Conference on Kerpic 2005, “Living in Earthen Cities”, was hosted by Istanbul Technical University; International Conference on Kerpic 2008, “Learning from Earthen Architecture in Climate Change”, was hosted by Cyprus International University; International Conference on Kerpic 2013, “New Generation Earthen Architecture: Learning from Heritage” and International Conference on Kerpic 2015, “Built Environment on Silk Road” and International Conference on Kerpic 2016, “Cultural Landscape, Rebuilding After Decay”, were hosted by Istanbul Aydin University; International Conference on Kerpic 2018, “Back to Earthen Architecture: Industrialized, Injected, Rammed, Stabilized”, was hosted by Hasan Kalyoncu University in Gaziantep; International Conference on Kerpic 2019, “Earthen Heritage, New Technology, Management” took place in Koycegiz, Mugla, Turkey. The 8th International Conference on Kerpic 2020 “Healthy Buildings: The Role of Earthen Materials on Providing Healthy and Sustainable Indoor Environment” was hosted by the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Vakif University in Istanbul, Turkey.
The 10th International Conference on Kerpic 2023 “Gain Information from the Traditional Earthen Architecture” was hosted by Dicle University, Diyarbakır /Turkey.
The 11th International Conference on Kerpic 2024 “Challenges in Earth-Based Interior Architecture; Current Issue In Earth-Based Materials, Construction Techniques and Approaches” was hosted by Nuh Naci Yazgan University, Kayseri /Turkey.
The 12th International Conference on Kerpic 2024-adana “Building the Post-Earthquake Future with Adobe Brick” was hosted by Nuh Naci Yazgan University, Kayseri /Turkey.
CONFERENCE EXPECTATIONS
Our recent 13th International Conference on Kerpic 2025 “Earthen Architectural Heritage” will be hosted by Ecole Nationale d’Architecture, Rabat, Morocco.
This scientific Conference, organized by Kerpic Akademi, Turkey, and the National School of Architecture of Rabat (ENA Rabat), Morocco, in partnership with its Doctoral Studies Center CEDoc “Architecture and related Disciplines”, its research structure LabHAUT (Habitat, Architecture, and Urbanization of Territories Laboratory) and its UNESCO Chair “Education and Research in Sustainable Bioclimatic Urban Planning and Architecture”, proposes to examine, on the one hand, the earthen architectural heritage production described as vernacular, appreciated for its diversity and richness, its specificities and singularities adapted to various environments and contexts. On the other hand, it will look at local building skills and techniques, analyzing their organization, use, adaptability, evolution, and durability. By extension, this conference explores the benefits and virtues of earthen architecture in eco-responsible practices and comfort, aiming to make it an invaluable source of inspiration for new construction.
It is also proposed to examine national and international experiences in protecting, restoring, and rehabilitating this essential earthen architectural heritage. Depending on the context, these rehabilitation initiatives are interpreted through various prisms, including Learning from earthen architecture in climate change; Sustainability in building materials; Sustainable architecture and sustainable cities; Rebuilding cultural landscape after disaster, war; Social, cultural, touristic reuses of heritage; Researches on principles and methods of conservation; Heritage site planning and management; Repair and strengthening strategies and techniques Evaluation of Risk and Protection against environmental effects and disasters; Traditional construction techniques; Living spaces and local teachings; Traditional materials and current research.
